Update on basketball/COVID19
Hope you are staying well, and away from others where able.
What a different year this has been so far.
No one could have predicted this COVID19 situation, and how it will pan out in the months to come.
While the world and us are in turmoil, Rupertswood Basketball Club would like to thank all our families for their patience and tolerance….. our Committee is in the dark, same as you.
At this stage, sport including basketball is not a priority.
Everything will just be on hold until we hear otherwise, and then we will work things out from then.
Below is the latest information we have received from Sunbury Basketball Association.
———————————————————————————-
Update from the General Manager of SBA:
As we are all aware that this situation is fluid and the circumstances are changing by the day still, and we have no light at the end of the tunnel yet. We are remaining positive and know that basketball will be back. The SBA is continuing to follow the advice from Basketball Australia and Basketball Victoria. The below information is for transparency.
Association news:
Kennedy and I are still working from home at this stage, if you need to get a hold me I am working 3 days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Friday). Email is the best option for that. Kennedy is in constant contact with Junior Jets coaches and players, and he is doing a number of community engagement tasks. Erin and Nathan have been stood down for now. As soon as we get back to planning the winter season and playing will be re-instating them.
We encourage you all to follow our social media channels.
Our newsletters are shared on social media too so anyone can subscribe.

We are looking at running an online raffle in the near future. We have already have 2 great prizes from an associate involved in the NBA. Keep an eye out for more information.
Basketball Victoria:
I had a video meeting with BV today. Basketball Victoria will continue to advocate the State and Federal Government for financial support to enable the continuity of member associations and the Victorian basketball community. We have already implemented some of their strategies and will be continuing our work on engagement with all our members.
Below are some key points:
BV is advocating the government on behalf of all Associations statewide.
BV has indicated that the ban on indoor venues will have major impacts on the return of basketball and will be advocating that the wording is changed so we get back to playing as soon as other sports are allowed to. The reasoning for this is that our venues are large and our one court venues have not many people attend games less than 50.
BV and our priority list for programs getting back up
Grassroots sports (junior domestic and Snr domestic)
Flight Path Program (Aussie Hoops depending on Basketball Australia)
VJBL (the season is ‘suspended’ at the moment) want to start up ASAP after domestic
BIG V postponed for now. Re assessed after Easter
Communication and Marketing plans
We will continue to post and share content. We are pushing the #HoopsAtHome mantra and will be working with other associations
We are encouraged us to run a winter comp if we can. We will be working to see how this will look.
Thank you to everyone for your understanding. We are doing our best with over 3,500 members to look after. We appreciate that a majority of you understand we deal in the business of basketball and that no basketball means no business. I know there are a lot of kids that just want to play (I have 2 at home). Please remember to practice social distancing and wash your hands. If we follow the guidelines we will be back on court quicker.
